GPS Tags Without SIM Cards

UniGuard Tracking Tags

Compact tracking solutions for everyday belongings, electronic products and personal assets.

UniGuard GPS tags help you locate belongings without a SIM card or cellular data plan. Using the Apple crowd network, these compact Bluetooth tracking devices provide location updates through a crowdsourced network rather than a built-in cellular connection.

Choose from a miniature wired tag for integration into powered equipment, a replaceable-battery tag for extended use, or a slim tracking card for wallets and travel accessories. GPSPOS web and mobile software brings available locations, recorded history and multiple-device management together in one account.

How Does a GPS Tag Work?

UniGuard GPS tags use Bluetooth and the Apple crowd network to help locate tagged items. The tag broadcasts a low-power Bluetooth signal, and participating devices in the surrounding network automatically help relay its approximate location. Nearby users do not need to manually scan or pair with your tag.

The process follows three steps:

  1. Activate and register the tag. Set up the device according to its instructions and add it to your supported tracking account.
  2. Attach or install it on your asset. Place it in a wallet, secure it to a bag, or integrate a wired model into compatible equipment.
  3. View available location updates. Check the latest reported location and supported history through GPSPOS.

Although commonly called GPS tags, these models use Bluetooth crowd-network location reporting rather than an onboard GPS receiver and cellular modem. Update frequency depends on network availability and the surrounding environment.

Why Choose a GPS Tag?

No SIM Card or Cellular Data Plan

A GPS tag does not need its own mobile subscription. This simplifies deployment for belongings and assets that only need occasional location updates.

Small Enough for Everyday Items

Compact designs fit applications where a conventional tracker may be too bulky. PT02 is designed for integration into electronic products, while PT04 fits neatly into wallets and document holders.

Low Power Consumption

Bluetooth-based operation supports long standby periods. PT03 offers up to 30 months of standby time, while PT04 offers up to 12 months, depending on usage and operating conditions.

Flexible Power Options

Choose external wired power for equipment with a suitable supply, or a battery-powered tag for items that move independently. PT03 also uses a replaceable battery, allowing continued use without replacing the whole device.

Location Assistance Indoors

Crowd-network reporting can help locate items inside buildings where satellite positioning may be limited. Availability still depends on nearby participating devices, Bluetooth reception and the installation environment.

Multiple Assets in One Account

GPSPOS supports device grouping, recorded location reports, and user and asset management. This makes it easier to organize several tagged items without checking each one through a separate account.

GPS Tag vs GPS Tracker: Which Is Better for Your Application?

A GPS tag is a practical choice when compact size, low power consumption and simple item-location assistance matter most. A cellular GPS tracker is better suited to applications that need regular movement updates, vehicle status or remote control.

Feature UniGuard GPS Tag Cellular GPS Tracker
Location method Bluetooth reporting through the Apple crowd network Usually GNSS positioning with cellular data transmission
SIM card Not required Usually required
Location updates Depend on surrounding crowd-network availability Configurable, subject to positioning and cellular coverage
Power requirements Low-power battery or external supply Battery or vehicle power; consumption depends on reporting frequency
Typical size Suitable for small belongings and embedded applications Varies with battery, interfaces and enclosure
Indoor use Can report where crowd-network reception is available Depends on supported positioning methods and connectivity
Vehicle status Not intended for detailed vehicle telemetry Available on suitable models
Remote relay control Not provided by these tags Available on suitable wired trackers
Best suited to Item location, supplementary asset tracking and compact installations Fleet tracking, regular journey monitoring and vehicle management

Choose a GPS tag for wallets, bags, travel accessories and assets where occasional location updates are sufficient.

Choose a 4G GPS tracker when you need frequent reporting, ignition detection, detailed journeys or supported vehicle-control functions.

For selected assets, the two technologies can also serve complementary roles: a cellular tracker provides the main monitoring service, while a tag offers an additional location reference.

GPS Tag Applications

Wallets and Passport Holders

Use a slim tracking card to help locate misplaced wallets, travel documents and card holders.

Luggage, Backpacks and Briefcases

Place a tag inside a suitable compartment to check available location updates when a bag is misplaced or separated from its owner.

Bicycles and Personal Equipment

Attach a battery-powered tag with an appropriate mount. Select an installation position that protects the device while allowing Bluetooth reception.

Electronic Products

Integrate PT02 into compatible powered equipment where its miniature size and wired supply are useful. Check input voltage, insulation and antenna placement before installation.

Business Assets and Shared Equipment

Organize tagged items using GPSPOS device groups and user access. Crowd-network tags are useful for supplementary location assistance where continuous tracking is unnecessary.

Manage Your GPS Tags with GPSPOS

GPSPOS provides a central interface for supported UniGuard GPS tags. Depending on the device and service configuration, features include:

  • Latest reported location with its timestamp.
  • Recorded location history and playback.
  • Historical location reports.
  • Device grouping and asset organization.
  • User access management.
  • Web and mobile access.

Location history contains the reports received by the platform. It should not be interpreted as an uninterrupted journey record when updates are intermittent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do GPS tags need a SIM card?

No. UniGuard PT02, PT03, PT04, PT05,PT06 and PTmax use the Apple crowd network instead of a cellular SIM connection.

Can I track an item when it is far away?

Yes, distance from your own phone is not the only factor. A tag can provide a remote location update when the surrounding crowd network can relay its signal. In areas without suitable network participation, the last reported location may remain unchanged.

Do GPS tags provide continuous real-time tracking?

These tags provide network-dependent location updates. They are not a substitute for a cellular GPS tracker when your application requires frequent, predictable reporting.

Can GPS tags work indoors?

They can help locate items indoors when Bluetooth signals can reach participating network devices. Metal enclosures, building materials and limited nearby network activity can reduce reporting availability.

How long does the battery last?

PT03 offers up to 30 months of standby time with a replaceable 1,000mAh battery. PT04 offers up to 12 months with a 600mAh battery. PTmax offers upto 10 years with a 3600mAH battery. PT02 uses an external DC supply.

Can a GPS tag be installed inside an electronic product?

PT02 is designed for compact wired installations. Confirm the equipment’s supply voltage and leave suitable clearance around the antenna. Fully enclosed metal housings can weaken or block Bluetooth signals.

Are GPS tags suitable for fleet management?

They can provide supplementary asset-location information. For fleet operations requiring frequent updates, vehicle status and journey monitoring, choose an appropriate 4G GPS tracker.

Are there any ongoing fees?

These tags do not require a cellular SIM data plan. GPSPOS platform access and any associated service fees should be confirmed before purchase.
